I emphasize Questioning to try and be as inclusive as possible to anyone who is either just starting their journey or does not feel like they fit an archetype of any exact label. Allies, friends, roommates, and friends are welcome to join as well, but the class is specifically geared for queer-identifying people. Meditations are sometimes tailored towards queerness within a yogic philosophy context. Some classes, readings or meditations are read aloud from queer writers/teachers.

When is class?

This will be a recurring class every Tuesday night from 8:00-9:00 pm EST! Class usually starts around 8:05 or so. Feel free to stick around after!

Why the LGBTQ+ community?

Being in continual fight, flight, or freeze mode is not a sustainable way to live. In my close community, it feels that queer people, especially BIPOC, tend to be living in this mode more frequently due to a wide variety of societal, familial, and personal factors. My hope with this class is to create a recurring space where we can share movement, contemplation, relaxation, and community to bring some ease and peace of mind to our days within the comfort of our own homes. Throughout my journey with sexual orientation and gender identity, I have received unconditional love and support from other queer people. This class is to express gratitude for this incredible, resilient community.

What type of yoga will be offered?

Class will alternate between vinyasa and yin yoga each week.

1/25 - Vinyasa

2/1 - Yin

2/8 - Vinyasa

2/15 - Yin

....and so on

1) "Vinyasa" means "to string together" in Sanskrit. An all-levels class, poses are woven together to create a flow that aligns breath with movement. Balancing, standing, seated postures, back bends, and forward folds comprise this sequence, as well as some core work. A higher intensity class, variations will be offered for all levels.

2) Yin is stable and unmoving. This class is a deep exploration of stillness, as simpler poses are held for 3-6 minutes with the use of props to activate the body's connective tissue. Best to practice with pillows, blankets, or blocks if you have them at home. A bodily meditation, lights are dimmed to create a quiet and contemplative atmosphere and comes. This practice comes from Traditional Chinese Medicine.

What level of experience do I need to join?

None! Variations will be provided to appeal to beginners, experts, and everyone in between. I see this class as more of a time to explore how you feel in your own body and mind, so even if you just want to hang in child's pose for an hour, that is fantastic. Feel free to leave your camera on or off.

Where do I access the class?

You will receive the zoom link in the email ticket confirmation. There will also be a weekly public Spotify playlist that you can play during class from your own phone, computer, or speaker if you choose to avoid audio sharing difficulties!

Who is teaching?

My name is Marc Milone (they/them). I have had a love for yoga since high school after leaving the competitive gymnastics world. I am a 200 Hour Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT) through the Yoga Alliance, and have additional training in yin and restorative. Yoga has been crucial to cultivating a sense of self-compassion as I began to live openly as queer. I strive to make my classes as playful and authentic as possible. I am always open to and encourage feedback of any form. Find me on IG @marcmilone.yoga

How much does class cost?

They are free as an offering to this community. I firmly believe cost should not stand in the way to beginning or sustaining a yoga practice. That said, if you feel a strong call to donate any amount, you can send donations here: https://give.thetrevorproject.org/fundraiser/3574038. There is no expectation to donate. All proceeds will go to the Trevor Project, which supports LGBTQ+ youth in crisis with trained counselors.

What do I need?

If you don't have a mat, you can use a towel, blanket, pillows, or even a carpeted floor will do. Anything you have at home will be great. You can dim the lights, light a candle, and get cozy.

What should I wear?

Anything you feel comfortable in! Workout clothes, sweats, PJs. Workout clothes are better suited for vinyasa, whereas PJs may be better for yin.

Any Questions/Feedback?

Reach me at 201-234-9202 or marcmilone459@gmail.com or @marcmilone.yoga on Instagram.

Feedback Form
