<div>NASEM will host a public online event on Suicide Prevention in Indigenous Communities</div><div style="margin-top: 20px"><div style="margin: 20px 10px;font-size: 15px;line-height: 22px;font-weight: 400;text-align: left;"><p>This workshop is sponsored by the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Health, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, National Institute of Mental Health, Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development, and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration.</p><p><strong>About this event</strong></p><p>The first webinar of this 3-part series will focus on strength and protective factors found in Indigenous populations to combat suicide. </p><p> Sessions will:</p><p>• Examine the differences between and among groups and tribes geographically, culturally, and linguistically </p><p>• Emphasize the importance of strength-based work and tribal sovereignty </p><p>• Discuss resilience processes that include protective factors including Indigenous determinants, healing ceremonies, and risk factors including and considering social determinants of health</p><p>• Highlight cultural knowledge, practice, ceremony, and how this acts in parallel to behavioral health intervention and suicide prevention, and contributes to strength factors</p><p>• Provide an opportunity for attendees to join other experts during a 20-minute breakout session </p><p><strong>This webinar invites all policy leaders, clinicians, practitioners, researchers, and community members interested in joining a conversation with workshop presenters to discuss current practices and ideas for future implementation to better suicide prevention strategies in Indigenous populations in our breakout sessions from 2:45 PM – 3:05 PM ET.
